Legislative basis: Remediation of Dwellings Damaged by the Use of Defective Concrete Blocks Act 2022

✅ Who qualifies?

Principal private residence or a rental registered with RTB before 2 November 2021
Property built before 31 January 2020 and not an unauthorised structure
Located in: Clare, Donegal, Limerick, Mayo, Sligo (Sligo added 23 Oct 2024)
Damage confirmed by a competent building professional (engineer, architect, surveyor)

💰 Grant amount & what's covered

Up to €462,000

100% of approved remediation works or actual vouched cost (whichever is less)

Covers:

✓ Professional fees ✓ Building condition assessment report✓ Alternative accommodation ✓ Removal & storage✓ Essential immediate repairs ✓ Disconnecting/reconnecting utilities✓ VAT ✓ 40-year government guarantee*

*If you don't get the full rebuild now but need it within 40 years, the scheme guarantees another grant.

Full demolition and rebuild
Demolish & rebuild external walls (both leaves) down to foundation
Demolish & rebuild external walls (both leaves) down to rising wall
Demolish & rebuild outer leaf only down to rising wall
Demolish & rebuild outer leaf of affected walls only

📝 How to apply & appeal

Get a Building Condition Assessment Report (€500–€750, refunded if successful)
Apply to your local county council – they forward to the Housing Agency
Housing Agency tests & selects remediation option – you get a written decision
Appeal any decision (validation, option, grant amount) to the independent Appeals Panel c/o Dept of Housing, Dublin

💡 New from 6 Nov 2024: You can request a technical review if you were offered less than a full demolition. The review considers recent Donegal research.
